Hi people,i have a 1985 2wd hilux ute with a VK black 308 V8 in it with a rebuilt shift kitted trimatic and small stall.Running 3:1.1 gears (borg warner falcon diff LSD).The engine had been rebuilt a few years ago and recently purchasing the ute the previous owner had fitted a Crow Cam and Crow lifters. When i went to adjuct the timing it was set at 0 degrees so i set it at 8 degrees which is 2 degress advance from the standard 6 degrees.(has the original 4barrel manifold with the trusty rochester and a standard headears with a single 2.5inch exhaust/electronic ignition. The engine will ping under hard acceleration.I use shell fuel that 98 octane stuff.Do you reckon i should run a bottle of octane booster with my fuel???Or do you think its sucking in too much hot engine bay air instead of cold air?(maybe a fittment of a bonnet scoop)So any help will be much appreciated. Thanks

You need to find out what cam was installed, who bedded in the cam, as it is known that new cams have to be bedded in correctly other

The timing marks can also be a little misleading. I use them as a way to get it firing up initially. Time by ear after that to get it running well at idle, then adjust after driving. If it pings, back it off a wee bit. Drive it again to see if still p |
