Can anybody tell me the difference between the light grey and the black heater boxes. Mine is black and appears to be fibreglass? Are the grey ones plastic or fibreglass with a gel coat,original or after market. Cheers john.

Hi Guys.
Generally speaking, the light grey box is the original for HK & the black one is HT/HG original. The grey one also has a water valve, whereas the black one does not. They are both made out of some type of composite material, but the grey ones |

Hi Terry. Mine is a december delivered Melbourne HK all original. It does not appear to have been painted and you can see what looks like fibre glass strands through it. Didn't know whether to paint it grey or leave it black. I think I will leave it black

Rare Spares has the heater box valve partr 3148473. This fits on the heater box itself at the lower part and allows any water from condensation to escape but stops dust and fumes getting into the heating system.

My Hk has a black heater box, Delivery date 6-3-69, Sydney car and never been touched.

Yes a tap is fitted, bolted to the side of the box

Hi Terry. My heater box has the tap on the drivers side and is operated by a wire cable. Cheers john.

There was a heater tap part VS10678 which suits the heater box and operates with a cable. This is no longer available and not easy to get remade.It had an aluminium body,rubber diaphragm and stamped base plate with the slider control.The other "valve" was

What was used to control cabin heat if a water valve was not fitted?
My HT has no valve, but I think my HG does have one, (both have black heater boxes). I guess the HG is incorrect?

There is an air flap inside the heater box which re-directs air to bypass the heater core. It is fitted regardless of whether or not you have a water valve. HQ-HZs without forced air ventilation or a/cond also have no valve, they use a similar |

Didnt the later ones have a simple on/off valve located in line on one of the hoses to the heater box. It was connected via a cable to the dash control.
