A person i know who is a vehicular imbecile with way too much money has bought himself a HT GTS. When I had a look at the body tag, i noticed the model number has been mutilated. Instead of 80837 it has been removed, the zero flattened out and a 1 punched in. It is painfully obvious to me that this car has been messed with. The engine bay was resprayed black and the plate removed after that, so the whole tag is black except where the restamp was done. And cheap chinese rivets (nice and shiny ones) used to reattach the plate. Car is heavily mechanically modified and this bloke couldn't care less about authenticity, but raised an eyebrow when I told him he may have trouble when he goes to get it rego'd. Will he have trouble if he scores someone with a little bit of an idea on monaro numbers when he fronts up to main roads? I thought it was an offence to remove tags- no exceptions. Am I right?
The 50 odd thou he paid seems dear for an unregisterable shed ornament

He shouldnt have problems, but hearing from others here he may have some with overly officious persons.
I also saw a Orange HG GTS at Cessnock swap meet about 4 years ago that was obviously a 308 4speed, and someone had done the same. Black tags and all.

If we all had the same (good) taste, who would buy all the Fords?

As long as there is no damage to the compliance plate, the one that says "this car complies with the following adrs" (hence compliance plate) you will have no trouble getting registered.
