hi all. havent posted oficially before but have had a squiz or two. I've just put new rings into my pre-cross 250 running on lpg.(dual fuel) had this wierd intermittant whining especially in idle and was advised it could be an alternator or water pump bearing noise. removed the fan belt and its still there. it actually sounds like its coming from the carbie and since it seems to settle once you touch your foot on the pedal.
has anyone got any ideas or experience with this???
for reference, I'm driving a 77 transit van.
thanks all. |

Before you go pulling things apart check your distributor. I had a similar noise in my old 250 pre cross flow and it turned out to be the dizzy running dry. Put a piece of hose to your ear and then place it over the engine while it's making the noise.

Yes I agree with Paul. It's likely either the distributor cam needs some grease or your carby base gasket is leaking air in and this is causing a "whistle"

after many discussions and much umming and ahhing it turned out to be to PCV valve or rather a section of hose connecting it to the carbie vaccuum.
thats another one into the 'what to check if it does that" pile.
cool. thanks for all the input.
