My EJ-EH factory supplement manual (black, 1' thick) lists the hydromatic as a 4 sp auto, and the ratios...
(from memory i read this 10 yr ago, i can't find the book right now).

so, 3 sp or 4 sp?

they certainly drive like a 3 sp

it is technically a 4 speed auto (according to the owners manual) but has an "intermediate' gear between 2nd and top which can be selected manually, although like you, my EH Hydramatic always changed up like a 3 speed! When selecting D you get a
