Hi all I have a 1976 HX Monaro with 5 ltr 4 speed, 3.36 rear end. I have put a new holley 600 on it, l34 spec heads, Yella Terra roller rockers, double valve springs, edelbrock torker manifold, electronic dissy, mild waggott cam and a double row timing chain. The engine had done a genuine 142,000 km when the mods were done by a professional engine builder in Adelaide. My question is: with the age of the engine and the fact that no bottom end work has been done would it be strong enough to handle dyno tuning. I'm bit of a novice here but I understand that dyno tuning requires the engine to be revved constantly at around 5500 rpm for a sustained period of time to get the figures. Is that right? Because no bottom end work has been done do you think its worth the risk, I'm not sure on this. I'm concerned that the engine or components may fail?? Any input would help, thanks.

If it ****'s itself on the dyno, it would have **** itself on the street at some early stage. If you are concerned, ask them to dyno it only upto 4500 rpm. even at 5500, you should be fine. My xb 351 used to rev to 8000 on the dyno.

As stated above if it did fail on a dyno which I highly doubt it would. It was going to break soon anyway.
As far as dyno tuning goes. Yes, it's well worth it. You get to tune the car throughout the rpm range. You also find issues you might not have k |

My dyno test.. I would now look at the Holley book from the Library it has in ther how to do tests without a dyno by going along in second gear at 1500rpm and noting speed. then flooring it and going up to a certain speed but not at a high rpm say 4000 o |
