Hi Fellas,
Have any of you messed with sun roof mechanisms? I'd appreciate your advice.
The sun roof on my son's Calibra does not slide smoothly and the drive mechanism makes some unhealthy noises. The motor works properly. It drives a small sprocket which then drives a flexible worm gear (I think that is an accurate description). I thought it may solve or reduce the problem if I cleaned and lubricated the worm gear and the tube in which it twists. Has anyone done this? What type of lubricant should be used - graphite / light oil / heavy oil / grease?
Although the sprocket looks fine, the problem may be that it is too worn. Does anyone sell small sprockets? I wonder whether I could buy a replacement. I would measure the sprocket hole diameter and thickness, count the number of teeth and estimate the original outer diameter.
If all else fails, I can buy a replacement motor with sprocket. They come up on ebay in Britain / Germany, but postage makes this a bit expensive.
Hope someone can give some advice (apart from 'Don't buy a Calibra).
David

This must be a fairly common issue, as there was a calibra out at Pick'n'Payless recently, and it was 98% complete - the only things gone off it were the front seats & the entire sunroof guts - all the mechanism, glass, motor, cables etc - but the roof wa |

Thanks Mick, Sandman.
Ill find out the correct grease. The grease that was in there was more sticky than slippery, so we cleaned it out and will re-lubricate.
The Calibra is actually a nice little car, very economical, nippy. Actually, it was better
