I rebuilding a HQ Ute and want to install Commodore rear disc brakes as I have VP disc's on the front.It will be running a 253 with a 4 speed box. I currently have a 10 bolt v8 salsbury diff with drums.

All of that is correct. BUT, it won't fit on a ute without tricky mods as the handbrake lever on the calipers hits on the leaf springs.

Byron I am doing this conversion to my 1 tonner am haveing prob with handbrake (see previous comments)going on your comments you may be able to help me with handbrake detals is that possible THANKS AL

Byron I all ready have compelet hz disc set up on just hand brake hits on spring 2 inch lowering block fixes that but need standed hight any more idears thanks

Figure out how much the calipers need to be rotated and perform option 2, using another set of caliper retainers to modify. I think that is the only way you can get out of it, apart from the lowering blocks.

The best way to get around the handbrake problem is a combination of 3 things.


Firstly a set of lowering blocks (around 1" will do), Secondly rotate (upwards) & redrill the

Why go to all the trouble mucking around with swaping disc and axles from a Commodore? Why not just fit a complete VN borgwarner diff. Wouldn't the only thing needed to be changed is the mounts and if it is a concern redrill the stud pattern to HQ. Just a

Thanks for the advise so im going to leave it drum brakes but fully rebuild the rear brakes.

Thamks for the info, Castlemaine rod shop sell the diff mounts and yes I shall do the VN conversion so I will have Commodore stud pattern all around. Thanks for thwe assistance
