hi I have just pulled my nine inch center out of my car and found bits of broken shims or washers in the bottom. I started pulling the center apart but cant get the carier bearings off. Do u have to press them off or can u gently hit them off with a hammer?

Better to press them off - if you have to use a hammer, use a nylothane hammer (hard plastic).
