ive stuffed the diff in my xa falcon when i removed it i realised it is only an 8 inch not a nine inch like i thought. the center is buggered is and ive got some questions..
1. is it worth fixing or just replace it with a nine inch?
2. the diff housing is 1380mm wide what model fords had 9 inches that width?
3. could I put a full spool in the 8 inch its only got 28 spline axles will they brake and what would it be like to drive on the street?

Is it an 8 inch diff or just a Borg Warner 78?

When you measure the width of a diff you usually measure the distance between the axle flanges that the wheels bolt up against. XA should be roughly 1550mm and you can fit any diff from XA XD (sedan) or

its definatly an 8 inch same as a nine inch just smaller. some mustangs came out with them i think. the center bolts in from the front no rear plate looks nearly identical as a nine inch just a bit smaller.

That's quite a rare diff. My brother got one a few years ago thinking that it was a 9". Apparently his came out of a tank Fairlane. XT GT's had them too.

i think i will just get the 8 inch recoed cos i cant fit an xa nine inch with my 10 inch convos. I was speakin to a diff repairer today he reckons if i want 3.9 gears he will have to get them from the states for me. im pissed cos it means the coupe will
