just out of interest, how much are VN-VT 304 blocks going for. obviously the clearanced and roller blocks are more, but how much do you reckon a block would go around?

and i've heard speed pro pistons to suit 350 stroker cranks go for around $9 from summit racing in the US, is this right? they are only cast after all.

i checked up on the pistons, and this is correct for cast pistons, $11 ea.

Forgies are $35 ea, I beams are $260, H beam rods are $429 all in USD, but couple that with an eagle 355 crank, and you have a very good bottom end that costs F*$$ all.

Maybe they dont trust the aussie 4spd or trimatic and 10 bolt to handle 350 cubes?

Yeah, but consider an original SLR5000, Brock Commodore, Sandman or original auto HT/HG GTS. You couldn't fit the Top loader (or Muncie even stronger) without butchering the body. And an M21 is already stressed enough. So in that case the 308 rebuild make

that's right, also to convert the motor to EFI costs far less. you don't even need the Bananas anymore, just get a 4bbl carby style throttlebody and bolt it to the existing manifold.
