just wondering what rating of oil would you use for a rebuilt sbc crane valve train etc.

If its just been rebuilt and NOT RUN use the cheapest oil you can find.
It will help with bedding the engine in.

If to good an oil is used less friction will stop it bedding in proberly.

Do the required miles then change to a better oil.

If its not broke it will be soon

Excuse my ignorance but I cant understand why people say use cheap oil. The oil is most likely cheaper because it has a higher amount of, and larger impurities which are deterimental to the motor and filtering devices. If youre after an oil with high fric

Not necessarily "cheap oil", but running in oil. Or at least a mineral oil with low amounts of friction modifiers. Once run in change to a better quality oil. I like 10W-40 Synthetic eg Fuchs. Mobil 1 5W-50 is also good. Castrol Magnatec is also a good ch

well the mobil 1 5-50 is what i thought i was after. and i had purchased 2 of them then my uncle rekoned that it was only for newer cars , so i was slightly worried.

but all good
