i cant seem to tell the difference between a model 603 (us) quadrajet and a 603A (australian) quadrajet. both reco'ed carbies from the speed shops

You are not thick ... even my mechanic thought they were all the same until ...

He tried to put a reco'd quadrajet he had at home on my 425 Olds big block only to find the mounting holes didn't line up !

Ther are 2 sizes of Quad basically the Holden and small Chev and the big Chev.

An easy way to get a profile for the base is to put it on a photo copier or scanner with the lid up.

Gary, that 425 olds carb was probably an 800 cfm version .
does the carb have a slash cut vent breather?
