Guys
Been doing some planning for the HK GTS i'm about to start on. This one will be a modified original. Basic idea is a steering rack conversion, front mounted. This will allow me to run a 427 more easily (well actually a late model 454 crate, with a rear main seal adapter - 454 is too big to run in NSW). I've heard a few people mention a few problems about HQ conversions lately. Dr Terry mentioned that HZ/UC PBR calipers were trouble. And someone else mentioned rear mounted HQ PBR interfered with the turning circle. So I'm sort of looking to emulate an L34 and have front mounted HQ PBR calipers and front mounted rack on standard HK-WB stubs with UC steering arms. Has anyone here tried this before on HK-HG? Any problems? Did you use bottom entry hose HQ PBR or top entry (ie L34)? The main reason for asking is I have some L34 calipers that I was going to Ebay but if top entry hose is better i'll keep them. The original plan was if I needed top hose entry I would use UC caliper body with HZ pad carrier, but if these calipers are no good the cast iron PBR will get the nod. I did use the UC/HZ caliper combo on my LX for years and it was OK but it didn't do a lot of work.
