Hi, the temp gauge in my '96 City Astra Hatch Manual rises sharply when I get stuck in slow moving traffic. It shoots up from its normal 90 degrees to about 98 degrees which is when the fan kicks in. The temp then drops down to about 95 then when I'm driving at regular speeds again the temp will fall back down to 90.

This happens regularly but the temp never rises when I'm driving, it's always when I stop in traffic or the like ..... especially a drive-thru .... the coolant level is good BTW.

Is this erratic or normal or should I have someone check this out further for me?
