Howdy,

Just wondering if anybody has an opinion or recommendation on which oil (brand and rating etc) I should use in my 308 V8 red motor. Has 40,000km on it and currently gets 40-60psi at 2000rpm when warm on Mobil super XHP 20-50W (see's 70-80psi when cold so warmed up carefully). There is a bit of tapping from the valves even though they are correctly adjusted (esp. when cold). The XHP seems a bit "thin" (ignoring the 20-50 rating) in the sense that when your pour it from the bottle each oil change it drains really easily and leaves next to no film on the inside of the bottle, unlike any other oils I have used in the past. I would appreciate any recommendations and/or comments on what you are all using.

Cheers,

Paul E

I use Penrite HPR 30 in my 308. ITs a 20/30, semi synthetic blend, good stuff. If its still a bit noisy, then try a new pump, higher pressure maybe?

I run Shell helix ultra - fully synthetic (grey bottle) in my red HZ 308. The previous owner ran Mobil 1 since it was first run in. It's done nearly 200,000kM now and doesn't ever rattle, blow smoke or use much oil (about 500mL every 10,000kM which is whe

I have 2x red 253's and both run Penrite....nothing else. Buy it by the 20l drum.

I should also mention that the car had a new high volume cast-iron JP oil pump fitted when built 40,000km ago and takes 6.5-7L of oil in a high volume sump.

Will it matter if I change from a mineral oil to a synthetic w.r.t the oil seals deteriorati

HI Paul

I use Pennzoil Multi Vis 20/50 with an oil stabaliser Lucas in my black 308 the stabaliser makes tohe oil cling to the top end so you don't get a dry startup. I have no tappent noise or smoke it dosn't use oil and goes like a shower. Ps it

Thanks for the replies fellas. I'm guessing that I'll switch to the Penrite HPR30 as it seems to be available in 20L drums; with the car needing about 7L for an oil change this probably makes the most sense.

Cheers,

shell helix 20-50w. I run a 253, and my brother runs a 308 daily and the motors run nice with this oil.
