my daughter is looking for a first car, she wants to buy a newish lancer but i have convinced her that for her first car she should lower her standerds, still buy a nice car but something a bit cheaper...

a friend of mine who i have known for a long time is selling his mums hyandi excel, she is an oldish women who has had the car since new, it is still serviced regulary at hyandai, interior is imac, a few little scratches/scrape on the front bar, only problem is something about the gearbox, which may need to be changed in the future (its an auto) and it has 330000 km, i can get the car for around 1k...

what do you think

The manuals are OK as a runaround, but an auto will cost 7 times the purchase price to repair - which is why they are always so cheap.

I was unfortunate enough to run into a 2 month old Hyundai Excel in 1998. I hit the drivers door and the car was so badly bent the passenger side had dents from one end to the other due to the car trying to wrap itself around the front of my Falcon.

Look for a nice lil Corolla.
Even the late 80s models are good, although getting a bit old, but if you can find a reasonable one for cheap, they are a good little car. Most second hand ones havent been flogged, as they werent really a performance car or

You wouldnt catch me buying a sardine can. The out-lay on a bit more expensive car should nearly be collected on the sale if your only keeping it for a year or so. Toyota is pretty hard to beat for reliabillity and resale, i had one a ke corolla! Thats my

330000k is too much for a small car. I was offered a 2000 Suzuki ignis very nice condition 115000 for $3750 the other day, still thinking about it.
Corollas in my opinion are overpriced and sellng on reputation.
For the extra money for a 2000 Corolla y
