Been thinking about what would be the max compression for a V8 motor to run on gas or petrol or weather there is a comprimise in the middle somewhere that the engine would run on either fuels. Any thoughts will be helpfull. Anton

I wish i had a bigger shed to rescue the forgotten future of our past !

Gas will run properly on a higher comp ratio than petrol.
So if you want to run dual fuel, then the limit of compression ratio is about 10 to 1(depending on engine style)
A gas only conversion should be OK at 10.5-11 to 1.

I was thinking (could be dangerous!) with the fuel getting lower in octane, maybe a bit higher compression could be possible. My V6 supercharged motor is supposed to be running on premium but i mostly run it on unleaded and it pings when it starts to labo

Well Sandman keep doing that and you will have nice ventilated pistons (not really the anti knock should take over) but high compression NEEDS premium fuel or you are wasting fuel and not developing full power.

You should be running premium, especially if it pings so easily.
Also youll probably find that altho premium is dearer, it will improve your fuel economy so ends up cheaper or similar price.
In my Gen 3 cdore, running on premium gets 10.5lt/100k, I trie

I think you will find its about 10:1 but why not just pick a fuel and stick with it...you can run more compression with gas.
