Hello everyone,
Just wondering if anyone knows anything about the process involved during chrome plating.
While going through an old timers second hand store recently I purchased 30 nice looking 19mm and larger whitworth ring/open enders and open enders at both ends spanners, these will be perfect for brackets and such on our Holden powered Hot Rod project some already have chrome on them from 50 years ago and some are straight steel.
What can I do to assist in the chrome plating process like maybe bead blast all the parts or maybe take the old chrome off, what would be an ideal method of removing the old chrome.
I also want to get some of those stainless steel bolts that have the round head but have the hex head inserts does anyone know what these bolts are called.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated
Fred.

You need to strip the old chrome off. im not to sure how do that maybe acid dip. Then you need to polish the **** out of it till there are no scratches in it, if you dont get then all out you will see scratchse in the chrome. The bolts are call socket hea

Reverse chroming? Make the chromed parts the cathode so the chrome is electroplated off. Talk to chrome plater. They will know what to do.

Of course. I was thinking of Electrolytic Manganese Dioxide plating ie electrowinning. Reverse chroming would have the piece as the anode.

we first thought it was a 36 Ford it also
looks like a 36 Dodge or a 36 Plymouth.
Theres nothing on it to say what it is
but it is a coupe or will be when finished.

I recently had a lot of parts re-chromed. the larger parts, bumpers and the like, where stripped by soaking the parts in something or other, there was no electolysis involved. The smaller diecast bits had the chrome ground off on a fine beltsander. The en
