Can any one emlighten me on the under bonnet insulation on HQ Premiers? Was it standard on all Premiers?

possibly i have had a couple of prems that had it and on a LS coupe.It was optional across the range but more common in the up market models, not many survive and are hard to get.

For many years Rare Spares supplied GM with an under bonnet insulation. The product SB1 is worth looking at as it is a newer product using today's materials with the same application as the original material.

I have seen nice ones on older wrecks but couldnt remove it. The clips always looked terrible and I would guess adhesive was used as well. The old stuff just tends to break, rather than come away.

All, The material is fibreglass with a bonded skin to prevent the glass fibres from coming adrift and moulded to the shape of the hood. The HK Premier was the first to feature the "hood silencer" as that is what it did - kept noise in the engine bay. It w

I have one on my HJ bonnet,i cant say much about being quieter(i'm sure it is)but i can vouch for how much heat is kept off the bonnet especially one s that have a clear top coat. cheers...mario

Dr Terry, Thank you for the clarification. I was going to mention the EJ Premier, but the topic was concerning HQ and the EJ used a different material. With the Hydramatic cars, I was under the impression the material was placed there to reduce panel drum
