Hi there folks,
Have tracked through a few of the threads here, and researched some of the other articles online, and there seems to be a variety of theories on what does or doesnt work, and is or isn't easy.
I have an HJ GTS4 running 350 chev and TH350 gearbox. Both items need a bit of a tickle and a tidy. I will be using an engine crane, rather than block and tackle, and have ramps, axle stands, jacks, etc.
One article suggests putting car on ramps and dropping out gearbox first, then pulling engine out the top. Another suggests disconnecting gearbox, then removing engine, then pulling gearbox out the front. Yet another suggests removing both as a unit with the crane.
Is it worth pulling guards, front, etc off, then undoing mounts etc and lifting whole lot forwards, or is that just making work for myself?
What are the thoughts of the masses?
I will have the crane for a weekend only, but can get to the stage of being ready to lift prior (once I know what I need to do).

do it as one unit, engine and gearbox. just unbolt all accesories remove radiator, fan alternator engine mounts ect. disconect linkages and cooler hoses crossmemeber bolts any wiring its easy probably only take you an hour. remove the modulator from the b |

Agree - one go is often better. Im also a big fan of pulling the whole front off as it makes getting the engine out so much easier. Its easy to do but needs 2 people. I wouldnt do it if the paint is pristine though.

Paint is far from pristine, so might try pulling all front panelwork off.

Just undo it at the firewall and under the guards. Disconnect the radiator hoses, transmission cooler lines, bonnet cable and lights wiring plus the battery body strap to the radiator support. Remove the bumper and front should walk off with a person on e |

Front panels come off really easy. One of the reasons I love these cars. Leave the guards on and just remove the nosecone and radiator support. It's so much easier when it comes time to line up the engine and transmisssion during installation as well.
