Hi all, just bled the brakes in my HQ Statesman (wouldnt surprise me if they haven't been done for 10 years). They have bled fine, and the system is now full of all new fluid. However the pedal seems to be nice and firm at the start, but then sinks to the floor slowly with pressure on it. It wasn't doing it before bleeding, and I'm 99.99% sure that there is no air in the system.
Theres no leaks from the rear cylinders nor the front calipers, and no fluid is running down the front of the booster. The level in the master cylinder reservoir is not changing either. Is it most likely a fluid leak past the seal in the master cylinder? It all looks original and the master cylinder is the big nut cast iron type.
Will a reconditioned master cylinder from a later model do the trick or is it best to get the big nut one re-conditioned?
Any help much appreciated Rhys

Hi Rhys.
This is one of the dangers of bleeding by just pumping the pedal. What happens is, the rubber cup in the master cylinder is pushed down the bore past the 'dirty' part where the piston doesn't normally & gets damaged. The only way to bleed brak |
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |
