my mates got an XF has been siting around for over 12 months was running perfect, he started it the other day and it runs like crap idles ruff slow to rev and backfires. he hasnt drove it but has no idea and being from the holden side i have no idea and info would be great.
he started it every few months and was only last month it decided to do this.

Sounds like bad fuel, vac leak, or fouled plugs to me. Clean the plugs, check the leads, check the christmas tree and all the hoses that come off it for possible vacume leaks and if all else fails grab some carbo clean and give the carby throats a spray

Could also be a sticky needle and seat causing it to run very lean. Remove the air cleaner lid and see how much fuel the accelerator pump is delivering.

The idle jet on these Webers is also solenoid controlled. Some are electric and some are vacuum

oh bugger. Check the big plug that runs the efi. Injector could be blocked up to. Getting into stuff i know absolutely nothing about. sorry mate.

me too! fuel is over 12 months old i dont know how long it takes to go off?

If it's EFI then it's still running lean by the sound if it (backfiring). Check for vacuum leaks or a split ducting between the air flow meter and throttle body.

Modern crap fuel does not take long to go off. remove the fuel cap and have a smell. If
