I have been using HQ 350 engine mounts and adapters to avoid the old broken engine mount/smashed fan shroud syndrome since setting up my first 350 back in the early 1980s. I am thinking of going back to the original set up, how strong and reliable are they? (with new mounts) thanks oily.

The original HQ 350 engine mount had a safety mechanism built in to them. This was so that if the rubber did split the engine mount would not come apart. But these are the originals. There are other GM originals that do not have this feature.

Hi Oily,
This what we used to do in the early days when our cars were relatively new. Buy a Chevrolet locking mount with interlocking claws that prevent the fan shroud being destroyed as you mention. I can tell you that a fan shroud for a GTS 350 was a

Thanks Mike & Tanart I have seen heaps of new mounts for sale on ebay etc that are not the later series with the interlocking tabs incase the rubber breaks. I was just wondering if someone had discovered some magic compound that would give an original l

The XW-XY GTs has a bolt through the engine mount to stop it coming apart when the rubber split. I suppose if you cant find the original interlocking ones then buy the newer NOSs and drill a hole with a high tensile bolts down the middle. Leave some slac
