Hey gurus i'm about to embark on a 186 rebuild. I want to make it a tough little bugger without being a roller rockered, baby eating psychopath. I just want to turn the key day after day and have me a really good solid and reliable engine. Can you lot shed some light on quality pistons, rods, etc. Cheers all. Marc

Best advice is unless you really have to have a 186, put the block aside and use a red 202 block with blue/blank crank and rods. There is a bigger and better range of 202 pistons available (ACL race series). Use the 186 head, 186S manifold and WW |

Only difference is the stroke. Bore size is the same. 186 and 202 share the same combustion chamber, so just a 202 with 202 head would suffice, but the 186 gives you adjustable rockers.

The trouble with the Holden six is that the design is very fragile. The block flexes considerably when you try to extract big power out of them. The head design is very agricultural. Nowadays you can find a replacement that is light years ahead for beer mo
