Does anybody know what the holes are for in the piston head of a holden 186?? Do these holes go all the way through or what. If they did go through wouldn't you lose compression?? Excuse the lack of knowledge..

If the holes are in the ring grooves or the underside of the piston these are for lubrication of the piston and bore. The oil is fed under pressure from the crank journals, though holes cross drilled at an angle in the crank to the conrod journals, up thr

Either red wine has killed those brain memory cells (meaning I'm wrong) or I am right in asking when did Holden sixes develop small end pressured oiling? I thought all Holden sixes (and eights for that matter) used splash oiling for the piston skirts and

Perhaps I am thinking of more modern engines. However, without seeing the pistons I cannot say for sure what the holes are for. Perhaps this particular 186 has been rebuilt with pistons which are designed for piston skirt lubrication. With some careful en

Excuse the extremely out of date reply to this topic, but i think eddie is asking what the small hole in the very top of the piston is for! Its about 3mm in diameter and im unsure how deep it is! I am also unsure why its there!

I think there is a dimple/blind hole in the top of some Holden pistons to indicate correct fitment, it's about 3mm, but to one side of the piston, from memory the dimple is to go towards the front of the block... if Im wrong someone will correct me....
