Hey everyone,

Just wondering if anyone could tell me the difference between the Red and Blue 253. Are there any advantages?

Appreciate your feedback.,

Cheers

Defnitely go the Blue 253 if you have the choice.

The Blue 253 got a Quadrajet carby & manifold as well as a Bosch HEI dissy.

They are also newer. If you are just going to get a 2nd engine & fit it, you have a better chance of finding something in g

The heads have different shaped EGR ports. I have a Blue 253 in my VH, but I have a red 253 from a VB without a manifold and an early quad manifold without EGR, so to make a complete second engine what I have doesnt go together.

Hi James.

You need a VB/VX/HZ/LX type inlet manifold for you VB motor. The early Red one only fits early Reds (up to 6/76).

I agree with Dr Terry. But if you are building up from bits an early red 253 (HT-HJ and LH-mid LX) is just as good or better if you do a few things to it during a rebuild. All you have to do is:

Fit a 308 inlet off the equivalent series 308;

I know what goes with what, I just need to decide which parts to choose ie skip the EGR and get some early heads to suit the manifold or get a HX/LX/VB manifold to suit the heads or get some blue heads and a manifold. If I ditch the EGR it wont comply wit
