Howdy everybody,

I've got a printout of a degree wheel that I want to use to degree my cam and graph my distributor (the dizzy will be rotating quite fast at the time). I am looking for a suitable rigid disc to glue this printout onto. The disc can be any size over say 6 inches (can reprint to desired size) and should be nice and flat so the scale can be read with a timing light when spinning. I tried a 360 degree plastic protractor as a substitute but the vibrations broke it. Probably a flat steel disc will do. Has anybody got any ideas about what can be used? I have unsuccessfully tried vinyl records, paint tin lids (don't rotate in a stable fashion) and a full circle plastic protractor. Don't want to pay the $124 for a degree wheel for a one-off job and I have confirmed that my printout is accurate so I am all for using it if I can just find a suitable disc to glue it onto. All suggestions greatly appreciated.

Cheers, and a Happy New Year to all,

Paul E

If you got a sheetmetal shop in the area go to their scrap bin (ask them first) and have a scrounge around. If you ask nicely they are usually very helpful. Even offer them a couple of bucks. If you are in WA I can give you one or post it if you pay the co

Thanks John. I'm in NSW, so I guess I'll try the scrap metal yards before troubling you if necessary. Attachment of a degree wheel to the crank is via a stepped washer that fits snugly in the hole and a bolt or bolts into the crank or crank pulley, and at

Hmm. Actually I have not heard of using the wheel on the distributor.
When you think about it all you need is a bit of 22 gauge or so tin. maybe 8 or 9 inches square (or rough) mark a hole in the centre and put a compass on it, draw your circle and cut t

Still trying to work out how to make the degree wheel. Couldn't find a suitable metal disc in the local metal working places that were actually open.

By the way (John), the degree wheel on the dizzy shaft is the basis for a homemade distributor gra

Belatedly checked the address don't use the TIMING suffix, just go to dvandrews and look at his section on ignition timing.

Maybe you could use a 9" angle grinder cutting disc.
