Not sure if this will work on the FJ, but I used a HX variable speed unit rigged into the original HK set up on my HK. This gives me variable speed wipers.

Its not easy, I used a custom made bracket, VN wiper motor, custom made wiper arms and a reversing lever set up so that the wipe pattern remains as per original, all in all was about 3 days mucking around

we sell wiper kits for hot rods that could be used on the FJ. They are 2 speed and mount under the dash, they run a cable and will allow you to have the wiper go from inside out on both.
The kit is $449 delivered within Australia and comes with motor, cab
