Hi all
Finally got my fully recond rochester carby for the 308 and have installed it with an electronic choke.
I have put the carby on (with fuel hose, dizzy vacuum hose and hose to manifold) and installed the choke by wiring into post ignition power.
I have set up the idle/fuel mixture to 2 full rotations from closed.
My question is, it started ok when i installed it and was running nicely (idling and at revs - though a little black smoke at higher revs) and that continued when i took it for a quick run.
About halfway through i gave it a quick squirt to open the secondaries and somthing happened (no loud noise or anything but an obvious lag and running rough).
When i had a look afterwards it was flooded badly with fuel everywher and leeking from under the choke mechanism (but not from the gasket). Since then i have tried to start it and it floods badly straight away.
Does anyone know what i have done wrong - is this tuning or something else.
All help appreciated.
Thanks Mark
p.s. thanks to all your help so far, this is great place to get this sort of help.
I am not allowed a mistress so i got a GTS - and its better |
A GTS/4 is a monaro - so nuuur |

When it was recod, who did it ? If a shop take it back.
If someone else, here is a checklist. Is it an early model (side entry fuel) or later model (fuel from front) carb?. Is the fuel pressure too high or float stuffed ? Do u have good vacuum for the carby ? The Quad needs good vac to keep idle circuits closed. Its a bit more than just the two knobs outside. Did anyone lose any small springs ?? Did teh carn come off a 308 or something hotter ?
Cheers john

Sounds like you now have the Secondary needles still lifted out of their Jets. Toggle the Secondary Air blades until these needls drop in. If thats not it try; Bouncing the float with a screw driver down the float Bowl Top horn hole, it may be needle and seat needs a tap, or you could tap the area where this is lightly, all in all it may do it again simply until you identify exactly what needs adjustment..But something does need adjustment.
