Keep the TH400 and run a taller diff. What you are doing is exactly what I did with my HZ Overlander.
In order to keep the VP water pump and fan use a HZ 6cyl with airon shroud, or a HQ 350 shroud also should fit.

Ive found the HQ-HZ 253/308 fan shroud does the job perfectly. The 6-cyl/350 V8 one suits a water pump which has its centre higher than the Holden V8. The Holden V8s water pump position didnt change height from HT to VT.

Terry, the HQ-HZ shroud wont work with the VPs fan with the square blades. I tried that and then found the 6cyl one fitted and worked perfectly. It was a with a HQ 350 5 row radiator, but these are no different in size to a 3 row as far as the fan and shr

thanks for the replys guys. what do you guys think about going with thermo fans instead of factory fan. as the body is very standard looking with the faded paint and rust free straight body. so im doing the drive train first as its a 253 trimatic in there

Most seem to use the Ford EF or thereabouts type.
