I have a problem with my XD transmission which I need to sort out. The gears won't engage. At present the tranmission fluid is fairly low, which I aim to top up and then see if that eliminates the problem. The only thing is, I can't work out what type of transmission fluid to use. How do I tell what type of transmission it is?

I noticed the gasket pan is leaking, which from initial inspection may be a gasket/seal and will be looked into before I refill trans fluid.

I know its a 3 speed cruisomatic (trans B), 4.1, engine W as listed on the tag codes, build date is 08-80, 5 seater!!

Pics of the trans are here:

I found these codes stamped on the tranmission

C6AP-7D027-B

8.0 D4ZP-7A040-AA

There was a big letter 'B' near one of the above codes too.

Could someone please help with some information. Greatly appreciated in advance.

Cheers

Jesse

Get some dextron 2 or 3 automatic fluid or whatever they call it now. Low fluid will cause your gears not to engage. You'll probably hear the pump whining a bit too as the torque converter tries to engage. Running the box that low on oil is not a good

Don't fords use the "Type F" fluid????

Reason I ask, is I got some once (by accident), for an old trimatic, and was told in no uncertain terms by an 'old school' mechanically minded neighbour to only put Dexron 2 into the trimatic, as the Type F would
