Hi Guys
I have a statesman deville with a 350 chev in it. I am getting conflicting reports regarding the originality of the engine and whether the car came with a chev engine or was it manufactured with a 308. Below are the numbers I have taken from the plates. I would appreciate your assistance. I dont mind it being emailed to me [email protected].

Thanks for the assistance, this is what I have. What do you make of it.

On the rectangular tag

Statesman Deville

HQ 8/71 AHQ05365S

On the other elongated rectangular plate to the side.
81469QH695490

Now on the engine block i have identified these numbers reading from left to right.

In smaller letters 18L53839
Than in larger letters next to the smaller letters TO424HH
They are all stamped on the block next to each other, i am confused why they have used how i would describe using a smaller font initially for the first lot than increased the font on the next lot.

Regards Bruce

the engine number should have a prefix of:

11QU for a 350
11QS OR 11QR FOR A 253
11QT for a 308

so the motor is not original to the car

someone else will have to decipher the tags for you

Bruce.

You cannot tell from the plates alone on a 71 model Deville if it was a 308 or a 350 (or a 202 or 253 for that matter on a Custom).

But that 350 is definitely not an original HQ 350. The T means Tonnawanda NY, and all HQ engines were from McK
