I need to build a 6 for my lx torana and my hz ute,this is what i have.179 hp block and crank minus 2 main caps, this block and crank are rusty but standard i believe. 186 red 40thou oversise (was told its a 192 is it ?)wich needs new pistons and 1 rod posibly and a rebore.Told it has a lumpy cam wich has 197b or 1976 hand ingraved on it so what dose that meen? Has an electronic dissy too new set of std haytec piston 186 (corection 179) red yet to be pulled down 3.3 in the hz to stay in the hz So what do i need/do to make 2 stong engines for the least amont of $ without too much machine work? Whats the best heads for what?Do i use the hp crank in the 186?can ya get 2 main caps for a hp block?Im not after rocket just something close lol but reliabilty is more the point for me.cheers to those who read this and double to those that reply,Any other tips would be handy and if any 1 knows whats needed to convert my lx with a 4cyl opel to the red 6 please educate me,thanks toptrix Edited by user Tuesday, 13 January 2009 10:10:52 PM(UTC)

Throw the 179 away. Without the caps an align bore will be required (approx $300). Itll be cheaper to go and buy a red 202 for $100 from a wreckers.

Its not worth much as an Opel. Only worth the value of the parts and body shell as donor parts. Probably close to $3,000 maybe. If I were you Id bypass the 6cyl route and put a 253 in it. Same parts required to be replaced ie crossmembers, radiator, diff |

Byrons Right;v8 is the best way to go here,better to drive when its finished and IF you sell it youll easily get better money for it that is IF you want to sell.All makes sence...Then you can part out the donor car too.

If your worried about the resale value of your Torana 1900 then you can always stash the original 4 cylinder stuff away just in case. After all upping it to a 6 or an 8 is all bolt in stuff.

I dont plan to sell it i plan to pass it on to my son in another 16 years lol,I paid $3000 for it,Im on a pension so i aint gonna muck with an 8,my ute is a 6 so i thourght i would get a torana 6 so i can rob peter to pay paul so i can keep either car on

Statesman front doors will fit the ute. If its a 6cyl HX ute the engine and box will fit, and the diff centre may (there are coarse and fine spline axles, HX may possibly be fine but 4cyl is probably coarse).
