Yesterday I took our rod for a run and after about
4 kilometers she started to splutter badly,I then
left it for about 10 minutes it then started and
ran for about 2 kilometers before starting to splutter
again.The engine itself is running very smooth between
the spluttering so I thinking it maybe the fuel filter.
When the engine was rebuilt 11 months ago all new parts
were used including the distributor and electrics.
It was spluttering so bad I had to leave it in town
tonight, does anyone think it may be more than the filter.
Ill get another inner filter for her tomorrow, the filter
I use is contained inside a alloy cylinder housing with a
barbed outlet at each end.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Had it sat for a while?
When fuel dries up in carbies, it turns into flakes that block jets, needles and seats etc.
You may find, now that is has fresh fuel in the carby, that these flakes have disolved o/night and it may run tomorrow like it never had

Found the similar happened when I put in new fuel lines. When I cut replacement hoses from the carby to fuel line some rubber fragments got lose and went into the needle/float area (stromy). This either jammed open or jammed shut fuel flow. The jammed shu

Hi Guys, The rod has recently received a good going
over and the engine has been started daily. On Monday
was its first run since the rebuild, Im hoping its
just the filter as I cant remember when it was last changed.
Ill keep you updated.

doubt it but...
these symtoms normally happen when going up hills with filter problems

check your fuel pump
float levels and carby as the other boys say
might evan b stale fuel but reaching there i thinks
marge pass me my gun

What octane fuel are you using? My 253 VH runs crap on regular ULP, and the economy goes south like the timing is retarded.

Someimes I get dirty fuel stuck in the carb. I normally fill up and go for a drive on the highway. It is normally cleared out by the time I get home.
