What ever you can remember might be able to give us a better idea what to look for to break the code.

Also does anyone know a salesman from that era, I know a fellow in the service department at Suttons from then. Will find him and try to find some info also.

Hi,

This was quite a long time ago. I can remember about the option packs only because the guy I gave the information to rang back to tell me all about it. He was very excited in learning the numbers. I think he was in a club.

Thanks for the extra number.

No more luck finding the answer, but at least now people are thinking. Who knows, one day the right person will come along.

Hi Warren.
I have been talking to a HR owner that has the 120 next to the insert section on the body plate of his Melbourne built 235A.
So that can be added to your list but also it has D.B.V roof in the roof section.
The car has a very old looking dark brown vinyl roof on it, so we are assuming that is what the D.B.V stands for.
Would that be right.
Cheers Paul.

That is very odd Paul. Ive not seen the vinyl roof type mentioned on any body plate prior to HQ. Also HR officially only had black or off-white vinyl roof options.

Dr Terry.

Terry,

IN HK to HQ Melbourne use VR for vinyl roof, and Brisbane always placed the colour, ie BVR, Cham VR etc.

Maybe the reason for not using VR in the above case is that the colour was not normally available.

Thanks for the replys guys.
Here is a picture of the plate.

The letters look to have been stamped with the same size letter punches as the rest of the details
so I am thinking it was all done at the factory.
So it looks to be another strange one to try and work out.
Cheers Paul

hi Paul... just in conversation with a friend about your tag.... he has a tag with the same combination that came off a prem with a black vinyl roof... if you look at both tags (his and yours) there is NO (.) between the D and the B like there is between B.V.ROOF so we think and its justa guess mind you.... that your brown roof is actually sundamaged black and the D is the mysterious D that no one can work out what it means... beacause both tags read the same
D B.V.ROOF if D meant Dark it would be D.B.V.ROOF and if it was a misstamp then both tags wouldnt be the same....

just another tag mystery i guess

Hi hqgts.
I have just talked to the owner about the car and we now think you may be right about it actually
being D and then B.V Roof.
He knows the original owner so is going to check with him about what colour it originally was.
But from a picture I have now seen I suspect its a very faded and damaged black roof.
So Warren and Dr Terry there are at least 2 cars with these details on there tags to add to you information
now.
Cheers Paul.
