About once per week, over the last two months, however getting more frequent, the car will develop a vibration which appears to be under the car beneath the transmission and continues to the rear of the car. At the same time the vehicle appears to want to be held back from moving forward. Can occur at 80-100 km/h or at a crawling speed coming around a corner on to another road at an intersection. It does not matter if one is driving in a straight line, or turning a corner, left or right. or it does not matter of the car has been running for many kms, or just started up and driving around the corner to the shops. Everything underneath the car seems okay, no loose pipes, shockers, etc. In all cases the auto tans is in Drive. If the problem occurs, moving the selector to third will stop the problem and then moving back to Drive and everything is okay. The problem does not occur frequently enough to be able to get a mechanic to experience the problem and then suggest a fix. Someone suggested it is the Limited Slip Diff which needs an oil change and an additive added. However, this car does not have a LSD, and also it is not the IRS model. I am assuming the problem is from the auto trans, but I could be wrong. The vehicle has travelled 123000kms from new. The trans fluid was changed at 90000kms, at a major service. Orto, does this sound like an auto trans problem?

What model XR6 is it? Must be An early one not to be IRS (EF/EL) or earlier?

An XR6 without an LSD now that is strange as even EA S packs had a limited slip diff.

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be one of the uni joints was getting stiff.

Thanks members for the replies. I will check out the uni joints, jacking up the rear end and rotate the tail shaft. However, do I have to take the tail shaft off to check for stiffness?

So were lsd's not standard with the xr6, auIII?

It's possible that an LSD was not standard on an AU XR6 as Ford liked to sneak previously standard features out of new models just to save a dollar. I was very peeved to find out that my EF had no rear lolly wrapper bins (ashtrays) trouble is I had alread
