is it my imagination, or are our old HQ etc V8s running alot hotter than when they were new cars ? my dual fueled 308 runs really hot on these 30 degree plus days


i was thinking of fitting a big bonnet scoop to my old girl. if i do fit a scoop i'd like to know current thinking on the effectiveness of foward facing scoops vs rear facing ones.


i remember chevrolet found the rear facing scoops were more effective on their high performance cars in the late 60's, but not sure about heat extraction

what about fitting a sunroof in your bonnet,
you could crack it open on them 30+ days!!!

Are u trying to cool the engine bay OR cool the air going into the engine ? The term scoops usually applies to cooling the air going into the carby and has zero to do with cooling the engine bay. Vents cools the engine bay.

To cool an engine maybe run

John is correct. Bonnets scoops, no matter whether they are front or rear are for forced air entry INTO the carby. If too much air is forced into the underbonnet area, it will affect air flow through the radiator & CAUSE overheating.

There is no reason

i thought a bonnet scoop would let hot air out as well as cool carby

hey fellas,
i am at the minute putting a diversion tap in the radiator in out pipe,,so i can divert the hot water too heat the campervan water supply,, this will also hopefully act as a heater, for the van, on occasion?
i am also hoping it will be a go

maybe the weather up here atm

and the stop/start driving

temps taken with a non contact infra red thermometer; im a fridgie of 35 years, so kinda used to taking temps. showing about 101 degrees C at the front of the inlet manifold on the drivers sid

do yourself a huge favour and ditch the davies craig fans. I have had 2 by 12" fans in a shroud, 1 by 16" in a shroud, and never could keep the temps down.

Switched to au fans, and its been brilliant, no hotter than 195f in traffic, and general temps a
