VK Commodore Chassis/Body Number Identification

Hi. This is my first post here.
I have a Commodore that I need to decipher the Chassis/Body number on. This is for registration purposes (blue slip in NSW). The number is located on the left strut tower and is bvk038260m.
Any help is greatly appreciated

All I know that you can decipher from that chassis number is that its a Dandenong, Melbourne built VK. The VIN and BODY plates will reveal more information.

There are no VIN or Body plates. The car was stolen and stripped of id plates. The only number I have to go on is the Body Number stamped on the left strut tower.

Thats right. I can narrow it to around April 85 give or take a month, but only because I record numbers.
You dont need anything other than that number (it must match the stamped compliance plate though) for rego purposes.

Thanks for the info Mick, thats not entirely accurate about matching a compliance plate. There are no plates on the car so its a police job. There are old rego papers but I havent sighted them. The car is currently unregistered and has been for a while so

You are allowed to register them without any plates in NSW but its getting harder to do so. It could easily be a stolen and recovered VK Group A. You might be better off getting a car with ID and transferring everything across. Greg at ClassicOzWreck has |

Well youre going to have trouble registering it without the compliance plate.
It will instantly raise questions about its identity when it is inspected.
If it has had police numbers in the past, then youll be stuck with them, as theyll be on record. |

I have spoken to HDT about it and they said if they have details of it they would acknowledge its a Brock even without plates. I know how to go about getting an unplated car through Rego, I am an rego inspector and deal with the RTA daily yes its hard but
