I recently purchased a HQ ute and when Im driving along and say stop at the lights I have to put it in reverse before it will go into first but putting it in 2nd or third is fine.
Did Holden ever make a 4 0r 5 speed box and would one go in me HQ

Sounds like a linkage or aftermarket floor shift problem, however it could be the 1st-rev selector. An aussie 4-speed (M20 or M22) will bolt straight into where your 3-speed is - they look basically identical externally. The only 'hard' bits involved with

Is it a 3speed coloumb change or a 4speed floor shift. sounds like a 3speed and may have worn linkages.
