I am going to check out a 308 this weekend. It is said to be standard bore and the heads are off. What is the best way to check if it is standard bore? Should there be part or size numbers on the top of the pistons?
Could i assume that if there are no markings on the top of pistons that they are standard?
I dont have any fancy measuring tool for in the bore.

Hi Brian,
In most cases, any oversize is marked on the piston (e.g. a .010" oversize has a "10" stamped on the piston).
The likelihood is that this stamping will be buried under layers of carbon on top of the piston. The lack of a stamping doesnt i |

Go to Supercheap or Bunnings or a tool place and buy a set of plastic verniers. They are about $7. They are normally metric so just do a conversion. I keep a set in my glovebox for swap meets.
