Hi All
I have purchased a v6 with a 302w already installed, am now trying to go through Tas transport authority to see what I need to register as a V8. Early info they have relayed to me so far is , if the vehicle has an unladen weight of less than 1100kg then they wont approve the conversion. Workshop manual specifies 1096 kg other sources show 1105 kg kerb weight.
This weight thingo surprises me as I have seen plenty advertised around the traps which are registered with V8's.
Does anyone know anything re this, the vehicle I have also has a CRS chasis V8 kit installed.

I have been reading up on this very subject. Tasmania must be following the newish national laws that state if the vehicle is under 1100KG for the heaviest model less accessories such as air conditioning then your maximum allowable engine capacity is weig

Thanks for that Jim, how do you think I would go argueing as the stds say that the v8 engine was an optional choice offered by the manufacturer, taking into account the Perana.
Apparently ford motor company authorised Basil green to make the v8 modificat

You might get away with it but it's entirely up to the Tasmanian rego people and I have no idea what they are like to deal with.

They could argue that Ford Australia didn't manufacture the Perana in which case you would still be left looking fo

Jim brought this to my attention. I'm in Perth. Have had my V8 project in the garage for about 6 years now, so the approvals process I went through may be out of date. Anyway, for what its worth, the situation in WA used to be that they would only allow a

Thanks for your input Volkers.
I imagine that the weight min is as original. My vehicle is an original V6 and is also fitted with the std brakes and diff for the V6.
Maybe I should do up a written addition to back up my submission.

I found one of my Capri books hiding in my garage last night and I think that it may contain good news for you.

As I understand it the original weight issue pertains to the heaviest available car in the range not just your particular model ie th

That is some great info to keep in he back of the memory banks, if these new laws go across the country, however I have just had an engineer go over the vehicle and I now have a shiney new compliance plate, all legal. Thanks to everyone for their
