Has anyone out there fitted retractable front seat belts to a HQ Coupe by attaching the top bolt to the panel above and forward of the rear window winder handles and not attaching it to the roof panel . This was done I believe in the HK T G from factory but not carried over in the HQ which attached to the roof .My car has extra strengthing in the lower part to attach the retractable mechanism to which was factory on the HJ and LE Coupes .I dont like the look of the belt hanging from the roof .Thanks for your comments Neil

Not a good idea, if you have a crash the forces involved will rip the bolt out of the hole you have used , unless properly strengthened and it will need to be engineer approved. If you have a 73/74 HQ with the lower mount 6-8" higher than early mounts then fitting retractables in the factory holes isnt a problem.

Hi Neil,

Have you thought about installing a fully original design type seat belt? I was thinking along those lines with my 71 car but went for a full set of new correct belts. The retractable type would be nice but it is probably better to stay with original from both the safety and legal viewpoints.
