A while back there was some people interested in the HQ super checken decals. Well there is a set come up for sale. But its missing a couple of pieces so only good for a sale/reproduction. Im looking at reproducing them. Would be screen printed like the orginals would have been. Is there anyone interested maybe? To be honest they would not be cheap to make. costing around 600-700 a kit to sell. Before we go nuts buying the kit and setting up and spending $2000 on setup. we wanted to get an idea who would buy them? Are they worth doing? PS we will soon be doing the HX/HZ screen printed Sandman Kits! (already do the HQ ones) cheers jason Edited by user Tuesday, 19 May 2009 6:20:20 PM(UTC)

I believe James at MMP is already in the process of doing these as he purchased a set of the Superchicken and the Splash about 2 months ago. I spoke to him resently and he said they were not far away.

Dont think they were that popular, I saw them at the 74 Sydney motor show and then saw a yellow panelvan with the chicken on it in early 75 parked across the road from us at Manly beach. Only ever saw 2 vans and a ute on the road with the chicken and have never seen a car on the road with the watersplash.

I remember seeing the HQ Splash in the early days but never seen the Super Chicken. Did it make them go faster?

I dont believe so, the Superchicken and Splash are 1973 vintage and appear in HQ parts catalogues along with the magazines of the day (May 1973 MM & Wheels). It looks as though GMH were trying to get a secondard market to sell their commercials to. Also at that time the exhibited to Ewet at the motorshow, a HQ ute with Sandman like decals and from memory 350 engine. Then as we all know in early 74 the Sandman was born and the younger generation went nuts on them. The only other odd thing along this line was the Gemini Gypsy TE with VB SLE style mags?

I think you are correct the phones not going to jump off the wall. All the same he wont need thousands of customers to turn a profit, depending on set up cost and retail price I guess somewhere between 4 and 10 sales. As for copying the superbird I will agree with that but as for the VZ hood maybe it may be HT GTS or Pontiac Firebird ? Come to think of it wasnt the Superbird and the Superchook at the same motorshow ?

setup to print the super checken decals would be atleast $2,000 to do them correctly. Then to sell them for $500 a set. Lucky to be making $100 a set. would have to sell 20 sets just to break even.
This is if they are done correctly and not just dig printed. to do them correctly so they are correct and last for ever they NEED to be screen printed. I dont know how "james" is printing them. anyone know how i can contact him? Im not interested in cutting him out. no point two people doing them.
cheers jason |

jason, just make them yourself mate, dont worry bout what james or others are doing, they live in a dream world, and if james, on the advice of pinkbits makes the stuff, you can guarantee they that will out price themselves out of the equasion anyway
they aint gunna be such a huge seller anyway, better of making brahbam toran decals, probably just as much call for them
