As a youngster i dreamed of building a car worthy of entering summernats. I claimed id never even go till i had something worthwhile to turn up in. But ever since i reached that point with my car, ive never gone, due mostly to the tales i heard from people who went.

Bogan Nats.

No offence to anyone whos gone and enjoyed it, and i know its good for the sport, but i look at how well NZ shows run, or smaller car events. Little or no alcohol, genuinely family friendly, no trouble-makers. Im all for fun, but moreso for a better image for our shared passion.

I remember once reading a letter of complaint about a spectator at Bathurst. Hed been there with his family and would never go again due to the yobs, lude calls, drunken behaviour, litter etc. A response next issue said simply: "what else did you expect to find at Bathurst?"

At first i laughed, but then realised it was a sad state of affairs.

Ive never been to summernats but from what Ive seen and heard the atmosphere doesnt really appeal to me.

For those who arent from west oz, we have an event called motorvation. It is well organised, well controled, good fun and best of all its generally idiot free. Granted its a smaller, shorter event but Id be quite happy taking my young family there.

Ive read of plenty of summernats entrants who wont go back for fear of thier cars getting damaged.

I dont want to sound like an old fart but imagine if that was your missus/sister getting harrassed by those tools, Id be swinging.

I have never been a subscriber to the theory of evolution, but seeing how most people act at summernats, I am not so sure!! (LOL)Seems some people have not evolved very far at all!!
I went once, it wasnt really planned, I just happened to be in Canberra for an unrelated function on the same weekend, and thought I would go along for a look, but NEVER AGAIN!! I saw more f***wits in one spot there than anywhere on the planet. I had my kids with me who are both car lovers like me, and they were scared out of their wits by the drunken loutish behaviour, and asked me to get them out of there in a hurry, before we even got to see many nice cars. And these morons wonder why us car enthusiasts get such a bad name! Sheesh its not rocket science!!

The problem with Summernats is that the promoter forgot about car clubs and was lured by the smell and lure of $$$$$.

I went to the Summernats in 1989 and it was so much better then. It didnt cost $ 60 to go through the gate to look at some cars, sorry, entertainment. I can see some good cars at local shows at a fraction of the price now.

Hey Bozo, ya mum sent me a photo of you.

why are they softc*cks just because a person doesnt want his wife and kids exposed to these idiot morons who frequent the summernats, the same idiot morons who then scream about being picked on by the police when they keep getting pulled over.

Personally I hope it gets canned, every year it gets bad media publicity on the news and gives all car enthusiasts a bad reputation.

f***ing socialist luddites.

And who gives a flying f*** if some ugly f***ing housefrau believes some senstaionalist media hogwash that says gearheads are bad? Are you really so insecure that the opinion of some uninformed moron is going to ruin your life?

Hey princess have you ever driven the KE10 to the sumernats? Bet not, because I think that a pissant toilet worker like you would be so scared that you would lose bowel control and your butt plug would pop out.
Stick to the knitting thing princess. Oh nice picture of you, 64" power lifter ho ho ho

What I cannot work out is how does princess bozo get so much trade at the dunnies when he looks like this? But it all sort of fits if you look like this, drive a KE10 ..... well the dunnies seem to be a natural progression.

WOW is that really you. Internet tough guy and street fighting god!!

I had no idea, I have an all new respect for you now. Peace brother.

Getting back to the gathering of the knobs, I entered back in 89 and 90 in my LC GTR and have never been back since, its kind of like a second gathering place for the Bundy drinkin girlfriend bashing rednecks from the Deni ute muster, it really seems all relative. There is no way I would take my latest Custom there, you would have to be mad. The best thing that could happen to that event is to relocate it to Phillip Island in Victoria and once they are all there knock the f**ken bridge down and leave em there. The knuckle heads can then create an inbred utopia and bask in their own glory. Summernats No-Way.

I can remember going one year and Ed Brodies black HJ was there. When he was going through the crowd, a trogg through a beer can towards his car and supposedly damaged the paintwork. At the time, his car cost $ 100k to build.

The troggs have no respect for anything. It got so bad that rice burners were even turning up 1 year.

There are a multitude of problems with the Summernats:

1. Banning alcohol for campers but allowing the sale of alcohol on-site, at excorbitant prices.
2. Allowing minors to purchase alcohol.
3. Over-zealous security in respect of minor issues but ignoring underage drinking.
4. No respect of car clubs
5. Poor hygiene, ie rubbish not collected on a frequent basis
6. Lack of adequate showers/toilets
7. High entry prices for campers, entrants and spectators

but each year, it gets bigger but not better. It has the same format. I think its time for change, a fresh approach.

8. The overpriced food and drink.
9. The wrong crowd attending the event.

I have been wanting to go for the last 20 years and have bitten the bullet and booked accomadation and organised holidays for the next Nats.

After reading the last few posts I am wondering if its really worth bothering!

Is it really that bad?

Cheers,
Allan

Was thanked: 1 time(s) in 1 post(s)
i just read the article and thn viewed the video, and i thought it was a day in the life of a cronulla sharks player after a hard game.....

i frequented the summernats before it went to summer(last 1 i went to was in 1984) whilst it was held over easter in canberra. it was totally different then, the cars where better, the crowd was more educated and the overall atmosphere was different to the loutish, thuggish and disrespectfull cretins that attend this malalgined event.

like, just take a look at some of the people there??? what we must take into account this scarey thought, that is some of these young people in the crowd will be future leaders, lawyers, doctors and dentists, can you imagine them defending you in court or opening up your chest to perform a triple bypass???? me things not..good riddence to a really pathetic event.

end of the day, thats why supercars will always get the funding and support from government and private sectors, because you really cant endorse or support someone in this field, or in drag racing in general(even as much as i love it)would you you support in motorsport if you were a multinational.. craig lowndes/mark skaife or brett steven/victor bray???
easy one to answer..

no thats not cool someone throwing a can, but fortunately it could have been a lot worse and luckily it only hit a belmont. could easily have been someones head or a classic car.

but bear in mind the guy was probably drunk or drugged or both so not really his fault
