i have a 88 holden nova and the temp gauge isnt working.
solutions plz. thx.

Pull it out. Inspect it visually to see if you can spot damage. If you cant, try test it. Plonk the sender in a pot as you heat the water and watch to see if the gauge reacts. Last resort (well, other than a new one) is to take it to an instrument repairer.

Having said all that, in a car of that era it might all be electronic, in which case ignore my post!

A simple test is to locate the sender & unplug the wire. With the ignition on, short the wire to earth & see if the gauge moves upwards. Only do this for 30 seconds to a minute. Any more than that & you could burn out the gauge.

If the gauge does move, just replace the sender. If the gauge doesnt move, your problem is in the dash, maybe the gauge itself. Get it checked out, by a pro.
