Hi peeps,
In the middle of installing a new ignition system - the distributor has no vacuum advance so I took the tube coming from the vac adv solenoid off in order to block it and the dang plastic broke on the solenoid, leaving a permanent hole. Do I actually need this solenoid at all or can I just block off the tube going to it? It seems to be connected to some other stuff - carbon canister and the base of the Quadrajet. I dont know what that bit does. Do I need to get another solenoid or can I just bypass the whole mess?

Thanks in advance,

Anthony.

if the new dizzy has no provision for vac advance, id suggest folding the end of the vac hose over and cable tying it shut.

i remember my hz gts had all manner of useless vac tricks designed to strangle further an already struggling engine.

Went much nicer without the lousy egr and all the other assorted crap.

As long as there are no vac leaks, id block it off before the now broken valve and forget about it.

Thanks for that greenhj. Just ended up plugging the hole in the solenoid. Now all I need to do is figure out what other junk I can get rid of under the bonnet to help her breathe a little easier.
