Without going through all the possible contenders, I recently had a drive of surely the pinnacle of modern V8 design. It had all the modern technology ...multi valve heads (3), overhead cams, variable valve timing cold air intake and of course electronic injection. The seamless torque of Fords 5.4 V8 thats first appeared in the BA 04 is very impressive. Being more responsive and economical than Holdens V8, the motor to me was more of a electric nature. With global warming and a global recession upon us ...and the possible end of large motors, this could well be the pinnacle of V8 design. Only improvements could be head and electrics over time. Ford I take my hat of to you.

only 2 engines that really deserve the plug od muscle, i know, you want pinnicle, but those 2 are the Big Block Chev, the others is the cleveland, both awesome because of the canted cylonder head design, but having said that, the big block always destroys itself, and as for the cleveland, well, yanno, it still is oil leaking rod chucker

Dont confuse me when Im hungover, but are you taking the piss?
Putting aside my allegances to the red lion, in every publication Ive read testing Ford against Holden the 6.0 ltres closest rival is the ford supercharged 6 in regards to power/performance.

He only mentioned "seamless torque" and "economy".

well JBM you can read ...the rest cant.... yes DFI is a small improvement ...but I stated it was 04 and included possible head improvements. Yes there are more powerful cars ...thats hardly the point....? Im sure if Ford supercharged the 5.4 litre it would be a 6 litre Holden killer in straight line performance if thats your only goal in life.... I was refering more to refinement and technological development, which old push rod two valves hardly cut.....although the SBC will continue to be a back street force for some time in limited applications due to price. Recently I was talking to another Ford owner who had done a fuel consumption day run around Melbourne.....he got 12.5 litres per 100km....... thats excellent performance...!!

And all this "new technology" in 04?
Pretty sure Toyota had already done most of what the Ford has in the early 90s with the 1UZFE quad cam 4L V8.

A mate of mine had a BA XR8 for about a year. Woeful fuel economy is why he sold it.
Before it he had a 185Kw VR HSV SS and now he has a VY SS so he is used to V8 fuel economy.

A VN Group A is just as much a muscle car as anything else bosko - it has racing homologation heritage.

The same has been said of the GT in times past. Just saying that four doors doesnt rule out muscle car status

[/quote] Frank where are you going with this? 351 and a grotty 427? The pinnacle of muscle? What happened to the 426 Hemi surely you have heard of those didnt they rule the drag strip? And if you are going to put up a 427, put up a good one not that sad looking dirty example, how about a L88 or at least a 435/427 with alloy heads (L89). As for the 351 where do I begin as Im sure Ford USA might not consider this their pinnacle of V8 muscle. Now Im with you on the banjo diff what a piece of cr*p made for family cars and should never have gone to the mountain, but still didnt PB have one of these in 72 when he humbled the 351 members with their 9" and top loaders?

Just dont let PB in on that as didnt he have 9 wins and 8 of those were with the plastic? The other with its little brother? and apart from 86 were they up against a 351? PS I realise it will be a little hard to let PB in on this but there is always the ouija board.
