Yeah. Thats right uncle frank.

You cant beat that feeling when a drag car blasts by, and your ADIDAS parachute jacket and parachute pants blow up due to the turbulence to make you look like Guido Hatzis.

I mean why stop at 7 litres...go for 8...!!! Its interesting to note the europeans are going the opposite way.
And as I also stated a supercharged 5.4 would be massive to say the least.

Sebring Orange.....a 68 Hemi Dart does a 10 sec quarter....but like most yank tanks still cant go around a corner. try a 68 Porsche.or even a Fiat.

Its hard to compare multi valve engines Byron...well Im not sure why...??
multi valve engines have been around for a dam long time...early 70s ... so Holden has had more than enough chance to keep up, instead of constantly sticking to there old two valve pushrod non cross flow designs......its called shunning technology.....
again I say look at what the europeans are doing....?

As for the Bathurst crew on this thread....yes its a great race ...but put it into perspective....alot of manufactures are not allowed to race here...remmember the awesome inspiring Ford Sierra
Cosworth of 1987, the Nissan GTR...just imagine how competitive BMWs M3 would be........the twin turbo 3 litre six......why isnt it a V8.....??
...because V8s have already got to the pinnacle of design......
.....?

What are you trying to say Russ?
I dont think sebring orange was talking about handling as the thread was about V8s and having owned Porsches myself they are great little cars that handle real good but not the best. Also they lack room and towing torque but hey thats not why you buy a Porsche or the topic of disscussion.
As for Holdens shunning technology .... Man are you for real? Do you think GMH has got unlimited resources to make and sell anything? The have a country of 20 million to work at throw in NZ with another 4 million and some other odd markets, not 280 million like America, or the Asian manufacturers that market to the whole world. GMH does a great job considering their limitations.
Are you just having a bad day or did the cook say no!

....seriously...?? what ever you think...its a public forum after all...

2.My name isnt Russ.
3.I know the population of Australia and the economys of scale and the obvious limitations of this....however Holden could still have advanced alot more than they have......do you know how the japanese work...? for a start they dont pay there so called engineers such high salaries.

How much did they spend to produce the 3.6 V6...??
definitely not the pinnacle of design was it....?
.....somewhat thirsty and somewhat gutless......
...hence thay changed the cam profiles recently.......

All,

If "the pinnacle of V8 design" is the topic and we have some real interesting V8 engines mentioned here so far, Id like to nominate one really special V8 engine for some serious debate. That engine is the 3 litre V8 installed in the Triumph Stag. God? No. Dog? Maybe...

Anyone beat that?

Neither is the entire Commodore fleet, and that includes those 2 door models.

Ill pay that one junior and custom.

Shifty , dont know much about stag 3 litre V8....every one used to think it was a 3.5. Some problems with over heating I believe.
Triumph Standard in 50s and 60s I believe made better motors than Holden and Ford......they might of been at there pinnacle back then..

Its interesting to note how some major manufacturers have already passed the V8 and mainly do 6s Nissans 370 is a V6...BMW series 7 is a 6.

Hello musksell,

The 3.5 you refer to is the 3500 engine used in Rover products. The Stag engine was different and was the result of joining two Dolomite 4 cyl. engines together. Whoever designed it would be worthy of "the pinnacle of V8 design" award for the method used to drive the water pump impeller amongst other things. A nightmare to say the least...

Where did I say Porsches dont handle? What I said was..
having owned Porsches myself they are great little cars that handle real good but not the best.
How do you get "real good" into "dont handle" ???????
And no I have not owned 1 but 2 both 911s.
As for Holdens limitations/advancement that is subjective.
As for your name it suits your rediculous statements.

Porches handle real good....Mr Pink...?
...but not the best...?
They would surely be very close to
the best I would of thought.
So what does handle better...?
As for your comments on my name....
not into your little psychological games.
rediculous ...isnt it...(ridiculous)

Porsches are great cars with superb quality, however due to the rear engine the 911 doesnt get great weight distribution, bum heavy. I have had front wheel drift through corners on more than once. I believe about when 928 came out Porsche was trying to move away from the 911 design but the buying public just wanted more.
If you ponder what they are trying to work with you will see many short comings that they have done their best to overcome. As I said the rear mount engine, pedal cluster off centre due to a wheel tub being where you would want the go pedal and the steering column that angles across it is like an LJ almost. Ever sat in the rear of one?
Anyhow we could go on and on about the design.
As for handling better I think you will find a rather large list of cars from Nissan to Corvette. None of these are grocery getters but performance/sport versions. I would suggest getting some 911 lateral g figures and then seeing what other cars have.
And yes it is ridiculous, but thats what it was.
