Spot on Jim. The 4 door "GTS" should have stayed as an SS, which Holden did return to in VH and it remains today. Maybe they decided they wanted SS for the Torana? Who knows. I agree that a 4 door being called a Monaro may lessen the Monaro name, but it certainly doesnt lessen what the 4 door GTS is, in fact its the other way around. To be totally correct Kingswood doesnt mean 4 doors either. There was a large portion of HQ-HZ Kingswoods that were utes, vans and wagons. So maybe the word MEDAN is a better term! In any case the term was used in a derogatory fashion, just like Selmont has been used by the same poster in the past. Which is the reason I questioned it.

Who cares what the bloke is asking for it. You dont have to buy it.
I bet guys were bashing the blokes who were asking $50,000 for a GT HO 10 years ago too.
Another 20 years and that heap might be worth $50+

Mah... I dont care what people call my HJ GTS. I only ever refer to it as a GTS anyway. To me a Monaro has 2 doors even though my car is badged as one. If thats how much theyre going for I might put it on the market, you could get a tidy 57 chev for that

I dont usually get involved but since Bosko is such a d#$khead I will. My shed is full of 3 SS,s and one GTS/4. The horror. It looks like I will have to take a match to them because even though I like them (maybe even love them) nobody else can stand them. Imagine if the HK had come out with four doors instead of two(they look mint by the way, wish I had one, maybe one day I will). We would be laughing at the 2 door brigade and belittling them. What about the A9X. That came in a 4 door. There was more 4 doors made than 2 doors. Attack them Bosko you gutless fool. I really like my 4 doors and they suit me, and couldnt give a stuff what the world thinks. each to there own. By the way on my sales receipt from the dealer on my "monaro" way back in 73 it says GTS/4 Monaro(Kingswood) and my car is very early with an 8n69 plate. Its so close to a kingswood you couldnt believe it. But with a 30Y trim that makes it a Monaro so naaaaahhhh(tongue poking out) to you Mr Bosko. It looks so cool back to original mustard with black blackouts. But I digress, we all know this bloke wont get $45k for that car but I guess he can have a crack. Someone out there moght be looking for that exact car in that exact colour and doesnt care what he pays to get it.

It should be noted that Holden was going to call the car Kingswood coupe and GTS coupe. Just like Kingswood sedan, wagon and ute.
If Noel bedford had not suggested the Monaro name it would be quite simple.
Had it been simply GTS coupe we would be debating if the GTS moniker should have been placed on a sedan in HQ. I wonder if the GT guys debate the XA/B GT coupe?
What about "Charger"?
As for the Body being Kingswood, not being an HQ expert, but I would have thought a Belmont, Kingswood and Premier sedan body to be the same, with only minor "drilling operations between them.
What would we be calling the L34 version? (GTS 327 was to be a GTS with L34 option, and to make it even more complicated only the first 500 were to have the large tank)

I know people love 4 door cars , including the Ford GTs and A9xs, VH Pacer sedans etc , but "in my opinion" a true sports car only has 2 doors . I know in Europe they have many 4 Door Sports Models , like Golfs /BMWs and others , but us in little old Australia trying to simulate the real sports thing ,more will go down the 2 door road rather than the 4 door sports models . I know its not Australia , but can you imagine them selling a Ferrari 4 door ? I cant . The reasoning being is that the 2 door sports cars is all about the selfish/no kids/opulence/image thing which Australia has simulated in our 2 door cars. So there is definitely a market for both i can see that , but i always think the more sought after and better looking 2 models with no pillars and the sleek looks will be the one to have looks and value wise . Just my thoughts . Johnathan B Everything in life has its price Edited by user Thursday, 28 May 2009 12:45:30 AM(UTC)

Im with Sebring Orange, Sports cars have 2 doors. I understand why we have 4 door versions in Oz. Ford initially didnt want to spend the money and took the easy road with a 351 Fairmont etc. Holden went 4 door to increase sales at a guess. Through the early 70s coupe sales fell away and fuel prices didnt help. Anyhow this country seems to lack the population for a sports coupe in the line up. Thus both camps give us the revised Falcon/Commodore for a substitute. As Sebring Orange poined out Ferrari only have 2 doors and most of the time only 2 seats. Hard to imagine 4 door Porsches and 4 door Ferraris racing around Le Mans! My pick of Oz 4 doors with out a doubt would be L34s and A9xs a very tough looking package even in 4 door format and would rip the ar!e out of the period coupes.

OK I stand corrected, but Jesus that Porsche is ugly! Sad to see these famous marque have sunk to Holden-Ford level to get extra sales. But I will take a wager that these will not see Le Mans!

My sister had one of those 2 door Geminis. Lucky Holden didnt put a Monaro badge on one of those. I always thought a "sports" car was one that was above the norm in performance and finish. Not by how many doors it has. In saying this were does the W427 sit. It has 4 doors and above average performance. Its not a family tourer so what is it. Porsche make a Cayenne as well and that has 4 doors. Not all 2 door monaros were performance vehicles especially the Hk-t-g with a 186 in them. Are they a sports car? They didnt exactly go. A sports car has extra styling to them, maybe a wing or extra paint in a different colour or added extras to the motor or drivetrain. Surely you blokes can come up with a better arguement than the number of doors a car has is to what it is. Holden called them Monaro, im calling them Monaro
